Jund al-Aqsa

Jund al-Aqsa (“Soldiers of al-Aqsa”) is a foreign fighter battalion that is comprised of various nationalities, including South Asian origin, as well as a Syrian contingent.The batallion is deployed in the Idlib and Hama governorates to fight Syrian Government forces. Jund al-Aqsa was initially labelled as an Islamic State (IS) ally by rebels, but following the withdrawal of the IS from Idlib and Hama provinces, accusations against Jund al-Aqsa ceased. The batallion has supported Ahrar al-Sham of the Islamic Front in the offensive at the village of Ma'an (Hama province), resulting in the massacre of local Alawites, during February 2014.
