The announcement gave way for an IS twitter campaign in which each statement of support for the IS became “headlines”, ironically comparable to a pre-election campaign in Western style democracies.  Pledges of loyalty and support were forthcoming, not from organisations but individuals. These individuals claimed membership to groups such as al Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Islami Pakistan (TTIP/TTP) and Abu Sayyaf.
