Afrikaner Rightwing extremism as an organised threat has declined, though the risk of small group or lone wolf attacks remains present. Transformation in South Africa has resulted in a fringe Afrikaner grouping that is of the opinion that they have lost their identity, that the Afrikaner is being targeted by means of inverse prejudice and that a black versus white battle is inevitable. Add to this a continuous reference to high crime rates, murder of white farmers and families and black economic empowerment leading to socio-economic deprivation of the Afrikaner.
