Subjectivity of Regional Reporting on Terrorism

This chapter seeks to analyse the reasons behind the different media reproductions of events related to terrorism from different media around the world and argues that the geographical base of those media plays an important role in the shaping of this reporting. In other words, we have come to expect similar coverage of the same terrorist events from the majority of the media based in Muslim countries which is different from the expected coverage of the same event for the majority of the media based in Western Europe and Japan, which is different from the coverage of the same event from media based in Cuba and Venezuela, which is different from the media based in Russia, Belarus and China, ‘subjectivities’ that are related to geographical or geopolitical regions.Photo: This billboard in India is intended to attract younger readers, who gravitate to style over substance.
