The UK counter-terrorism internet referral unit recently authorized about 8,000 “takedowns” of propaganda content for recruiting British militants to join the jihad in Syria. A former MI6 counter-terrorism head, Richard Barrett, said in an interview during June 2014 that “hundreds of veteran fighters from Syria and Iraq were already back in Britain” and warned that the UK security forces face an “impossible” task keeping track of them all.
