The Al Salafiya Al Jihadiya (Salafi Jihadi Movement) is an extremist group that the Egyptian Morsi administration has been combating in Sinai. According to Egyptian intelligence sources, Al Salafiya Al Jihadiya has strong links to similar groups operating in the south and east of Libya and in the Sahel region. The Salafist movement espouses violent jihad against civilians as a legitimate expression of Islam and believe Salafism is the only true interpretation of Quran.VideoVideo: 2013 Two masked gunmen fired on Israeli soldiers from across the Egyptian border. The fire came from the Sinai border. No injuries were reported and the gunmen escaped into the Sinai desert by vehicle.
