In March 2014, the Caucasus Emirate (CE) acknowledged that Emir Doku Umarov died, though no details were provided pertaining to the circumstances of his death. The CE also announced its new leader: Ali Abu-Muhammad (Aliashab Alibulatovich Kebekov). Travels outside RussiaKebekov (42) was born in 1972 in the village of Teletl in Sovyetsky District, what is now called the Shamil District of Dagestan, and ethnically is an Avar. He was killed on 19 April 2015 in a Russian security force raid at his home in Buynaksk, Dagestan. Irrespective of the lack of details on Kebekov’s life and career, his fluency in Arabic combinded with his theological knowledge do refect that he studied in Syria. Kebekov studied in Syria in the early 2000s under his own nephew, Murtuzali Magomedov. Murtuzali went to Syria in the early 90s and became a recognised expert in the field of Sharia law.
