Shekau's Death Splinters GroupOn 19 May 2021, Abubakar Shekau (aka Abu Muhammad) killed himself with a suicide vest during ISWA and Boko Haram 'meetings' where ISWA told Shekau to step down or face the consequences. ISWA was action on orders from Islamic State Central Command in Syria and Iraq to silence Shekau permanently. Rather than give up, Shekau simply became yet another martyr for Boko Haram.
