HaMered is a cell of Jewish extremists that aims to dismantle the state of Israel and restore a Jewish monarchy in accordance with the Torah. Though active since 2013, Israel’s state security agency, the Shin Bet only recently attributed a series of arson attacks committed by HaMered in January 2016. Composition Their is no central hierarchy or organization within the group; small independent cells commit actions on their own. The forty or so core members that range in age from 15-25 consist of the violent elements within the Givonim, or Hilltop Youth, a movement of disaffected and religious young men active in the settlement movement in Samarria, West Bank. According to the Shin Bet:"Some of these people have cut ties with their families, and are living a simple life in outposts, herding sheep and doing agricultural work. They learned how not to cooperate in interrogations and pray instead of cooperating."Photo: Undated photo of Meir…

Groups and individuals included in TRAC's database range from actual perpetrators of social or political violence to more passive groups that support or condone (perhaps unwittingly) such violence. The spectrum of violence represented by these groups is vast, from Jihadists who bomb train stations to financial institutions that transfer funds. Some groups that originally engaged in violence but have since become legitimate political parties are included to provide historical perspective. TRAC is in no way attempting to determine whether groups or individuals are terrorists -- only to convey reported information about their activities and official State status. While TRAC attempts to ensure the accuracy of its TRAC database, the entries in the database are from numerous different sources.
