KISDI was a radical underground student group during the Suharto era but eventually emerged to become a moderate political organization. In 1994 it rallied for solidarity with Bosnian Muslims. The group was originally formed to establish sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians in order to underscore the differences between Muslims and the West. It expanded its Palestinian campaign to include Muslims in Bosnia, Indian Kashmir, France, and Algeria. The group's philosophy and message was the treachery of the West and Western hypocrisy in enforcement of human rights.
