IS Khurasan is the provincial division of the Islamic State designated for the nations of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan encompassed under a single jurisdictional authority, Wilayat Khurasan.Supported by Local GroupsThe group has asserted its presence namely in Afghanistan officially since January 2015. However, efforts towards this were seen as early as May 2014. These efforts are characterised by attacks against Afghan military personnel, sectarian minorities and the killing of Taliban operatives. In Pakistan, the group has gained an affiliate in Jundullah and support from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, both of which often target sectarian and religious minorities.
