Jaysh Muhammad is a jihadist group that is led by Abu Obeida al-Muhajir (Egyptian national). Jaysh Muhammed participation in armed offensives suggests support to both the Islamic State (IS) and Jabhat al-Nusrah (JN) upon its original founding.The group's non-participation in more recently formed Syrian rebel alliances, such as Jabhat Ansar al-Dun also indicates a strategy to maintain independence from rebel groups. The group primarily operates in Aleppo province but participated in offensives in other governorates. During October 2013, the group, with the Green Battalion and the Islamic State (IS), participated in an offensive in the Sakhna region (Homs province).
