The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) is a secessionist movement with the aim of securing the resurgence of the defunct state of Biafra from Nigeria. Since its inception, MASSOB has continually alleged mass arrests and killings of its members by government forces. According to the group's spokesperson, government forces allegedly carried out secret executions of MASSOB members in detention centres and prisons nationwide. In May 2008, the group released a list of 2,020 members alleged to have been killed by security agents since 1999.
