The Movement of the Disinherited was established in 1974 by Imam Musa al-Sadr and Hussein el-Husseini, who succeeded al-Sadr after his presumed assassination in Libya. In 1975 The Lebanese Resistance Detachments was formed as a military wing of The Movement of the Disinherited under the leadership of al-Sadr. The Movement of the Disinherited was absorbed in 1975 into the Amal Movement (see separate entry), which was eventually absord into Hezbollah.
