REMNASA is a militant rebel group that views its launch during January 2015 as the start of the second liberation struggle to overthrow the leadership of South Sudan’s president, Salvatore Kiir. The group refers to bad governance, failed leadership and failure to protect the people of South Sudan as reasons that triggered the formation of the group. The group has also distanced itself from the armed opposition group (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement -SPLM-IO/SPLM-N) led by Rieck Machar. REMNASA is reportedly comprised of former military officers and soldiers of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
