IncidentOn 02 December 2015, the married couple Syed R. Farook and Tashfeen Malik killed 14 and wounded 21 at a holiday party for San Bernandino County health department employees. They died in their rented SUV three hours after their premeditated assault ended, but not before Tashfeen Malik uploaded a video swearing allegiance to the Islamic State amongst the gunfire.IS Inspired, Not Directed Though the attackers were certainly motivated by radical Islam as espoused by ISIS, disagreements in the workplace also had a role to play in the target selection (Farook had argued with one of his victims, Nicholas Thalasinos, a Messianic Jew, weeks before the attack). The assailants left behind pipe bombs at their home, and three "rudimentary explosive devices" packed with black powder and to be detonated with a remote controlled device at the shooting site, the Inland Regional Center.
