Seleka is a reference to fighters from three groups - Union of Democratic Forces for Unity (UFDR), the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) and the Convention of Patriots for Justice and Peace (CPJP) - coming together to launch the rebellion. Seleka evolved from rebel forces during the 2004-2007 Central Africa Republic (CAR) bush war. The coalition seeks to overthrow the country’s government and impose a regime of Islamic imprint in Central Africa Republic. In December 2012 the Seleka rebel alliance, numbering some 1,000 fighters, seized two-thirds of the Central African Republic, capturing the third largest city of Bambari and the diamond mining town of Bria.
