Turk Hack Team rose to prominence in mid-April of 2015 when they took down a number of Vatican owned web sites in retaliation for a perceived insult from the Pope regarding the Turkish genocide of ethnic Armenians in 1915. Turks generally admit that many Armenians died during the First World War, but they do not accept that this was systematic ethnic cleansing. The particulars of the attack are largely unknown. The group claims preparations took only an hour, which would seem to point to a distributed denial of service attack. The Vatican is very high profile, if there were a stealth denial of service vulnerability it stands to reason that it would not remain secret long.
