On 19 May 2016, AQIM's Al Mourabitounes released a statement attributed to Mokhtar Belmokhtar calling on unity amongst Jihadist groups in Mali and a call to make hijra to Azawad (northern Mali). The messages are addressed to jihadists in Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco and Egypt.
