The White Army is a radical militia group associated to the Nuer ethnic group of central and eastern Greater Upper Nile in South Sudan. It remained active in South Sudan until just after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement during 2005/6 when the government began disarming the group. During February 2012 the armed Nuer and Dinka youth militia group calling itself the White Army resurfaced with a warning saying that it will start new attacks to oppose rival Murle youth. Militias from both ethnic groups have attacked and counter-attacked each other since South Sudan independence. The youth, like Rick Machar, are ethnic Nuers while President Salva Kiir and his loyalists are ethnic Dinka.
