The offensive to re-take Sirte from the Islamic State in Libya (ISL) is not yet completed, with IS snipers, landmines and street to street battles causing slow progress. The offensive to retake Sirte, that started in May 2016, reportedly involved about 6 000 fighters, with 240 being killed and about 1,000 injured (Source: Daniele Raineri). As on 08 August, the Islamic State remain present in three residential areas and villas on the Mediterranean coast.
