Tehreek-e-Taliban Islami Pakistan (TTIP / TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, intending to begin the New Year with a martyrdom operation on a government target. The group promised such attacks yesterday, in a eulogy for one Ahmed Shaheed, the TTP commander killed by ISI in late December 2017.
